Instructional Design and CETi Machine-learning

Instructional design is based upon lesson plans from accredited academia and the content development and research libraries on the Computer Education Techniques, Inc. and SYS-ED websites.

The machine-learning anchors are open source Moodle - LMS and the standards of the New York State Department of Education Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision. The initial implementation is 16! ml: frameworks and 60! ml: pinwheels.

David Shapiro was responsible for the instructional design and instructor training at CETi dba SYS-ED: classroom instruction, distance-learning, virtual classroom, and blended-learning. This includes the course search engine and courseware development.

CETi is an aggregation and evaluation website. It is being developed to serve as reliable and responsible source of information technology training. CETi gathers and presents information factually, handles the difference between news and opinion responsbility, and avoids deceptive headlines.

In response to the coronavirus, the decision was made to suspend SYS-ED teaching operations. SYS-ED categorized and software specific websites were taken offline in March 2020. The CETi research and technology partner website - www.computeredtech.com remains operational.

CETi: Synchronous and Asynchronous IT - Teaching and Learning

Information technology training no longer is strictly the teacher and client-employee physically present in a classroom together at the same time. The operational reality is blended teaching and learning: virtual classrooms and technology driven classroom training extended with synchronous and asynchronous content delivery and web-based resource access.

Synchronous training is real-time teaching and interaction which is time-sensitive. The instructor is actively involved in explaining concepts, answering questions, and correcting mistakes interpersonally and directly. Synchronous training usually happens in a group and there can be cross-team collaboration. Issues with synchronous training include scheduling and finding a time that is accessible for the intended/target audience. There are the budgeted costs and resources required to get everyone into a training session; minimal or no work can be performed during the training. Clarity, technical accuracy, and engagement by the instructor is important.

Asynchronous training is self-paced online learning. Subject matter, review questions, workshops, and additional information are available for client/employee-student access at any time on a computing device. As a result, client/employee/student can work through the information from anywhere. Documentation of processes and best practices with continuous update is central to this training method. After the initial investment, there can be significant cost savings associated with asynchronous training - reuse of content in repetitive training from a well organized library for training one person or a larger group. Although relatively new, self-paced training has become widely used. The video conferencing platforms and third party tools are used to develop and access multiple file and data type libraries for web-based and alternative forms of content delivery.

CETi Website Infrastructure Libraries and IT Training Services

CETi continues organizing its database, developing website infrastructure, and writing scripts/ programs which codify its work performed experience and empirical data in teaching information technology subject matter.

Mastery of Subject Matter

The issue of retention with synchronous versus asynchronous learning is specific to the organizational business model and quality of the training service: organized presentation, technical accuracy, and multi-tiered/channel alignment with the client/employees aptitude to demonstrate mastery of the subject matter. Editing, organization of libraries and availability with integrated look-up to questions and answers on-demand takes significantly more work with asynchronous learning. It is fundamental to a remote office for an in-person training session - flexible scheduling. Asynchronous training could have a slower feedback loop; once a question is answered and confirmed to be accurate, the existing documentation libraries will need to be updated. Discipline and self-motivation is assumed and asynchronous learning and video conferencing platform tools will track and record the progress and work performed.

Machine-learning also is central to the "train-the-trainer" service, where client organizations utilize the embedded services within an LMS system to teach additional iterations of the courses and training programs with their own in-house personnel.

Zoom Video Conferencing Platform

Zoom, Inc. video conferencing platform facilities are being evaluated for use with CETi enterprise database libraries. Presentation slides, white board, poll questions, chat for synchronous teaching and client-employee-student interaction. This also includes webinars as a backup. Class lecture will be recorded and used in the continuous update of the CETi database libraries. The internet and URL links with additional documentation and workshops are being set up for asynchronous self-study and exploration. Zoom Education online courses and webinars have been attended with the guidelines being applied and refined.

The Zoom student administration system is being used and benchmarked with Google Gmail, Calendar, and CETi online forms on mulitple hardware platform devices.

CETi Machine-learning Work-in-Progress Tasks

There are LMS: Learning Management Systems that can be used with CETi and SYS-ED libraries.

There are website infrastructure services also under development: learning analytics, virtual agent, chatbot, and questionbot.

Jira, Confluence, Dita and other document development systems are being evaluated.
