DATES:

CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
    1. VSAM Definitions and Concepts
      • Examine the differences between the access methods and review where they are used.
      • Demonstrate AMS: Access Method Services to define, alter, and list the attributes of a VSAM dataset.
    2. VSAM Organization
      • Examine the advantages and disadvantages associated with the different VSAM organizations.
      • Trace the flow of data between the data and the AIX components.
    3. Application Programming
      • Instructor provides a VSAM COBOL, PL/1, or ALC program and demonstrates how to 1- Connect VSAM, I/O operations - READ, WRITE, REWRITE, and DELETE and 2- Close the buffers and control blocks.
    4. Alternate Indexes and Paths
      • Create a VSAM KSDS with alternate indexes, load the data, and build the AIX.
      • Demonstrate a PATH with and without the UPDATE option.
    5. New VSAM Features
      • Instructor to demonstrate the 1- Creation and use of a temporary VSAM dataset. 2- Creation and reuse of a VSAM dataset as a work file.
