DATES:

CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
    1. Introduction
      • Examine and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of a 4th generation language.
      • Review the JCL required for executing a DYL-280 program.
    2. Programming with DYL-280
      • Create a file for use in the exercises.
      • Define all the fields in a file with editing and default heading information.
      • Run a simple report in order to get a handle on the automatic cycle.
      • Code some syntax errors in order to examine the error messages produced by DYL-280.
    3. Basic Commands
      • Code basic DYL-280 statements.
      • Print a detail report of all the columns in the dataset using the file description from the previous exercise.
      • Reprint the report with a specified title at the top of each page.
      • Change some of the column headings and print the date in the upper left corner of each page.
    4. Manipulation
      • Perform arithmetic and character string operations.
      • Using multiple fields in the input record, perform a calculation, and store the result into a WORKING-STORAGE field.
      • Perform conditional processing based on a code in the input dataset.
    5. Control Statements
      • Use the DYL-280 statements to process the data.
      • Based on conditions, create an extract file with the same record layout.
      • Based on conditions, create an extract file with a different record layout.
      • Select a limited number of records.
      • Use the CASE statement for comparing a code to several values; for each value execute different logic.
      • Merge the content of a master file with a transaction file.
    6. Special Topics
      • Use predefined variables in conditional statements and reports.
      • Process a PDS and list its directory.
      • Sort the data using multiple keys.
      • Read a VSAM KSDS sequentially and randomly.
