DATES:

CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
    1. Concepts and Features
      • Query the statistics in the database for table and catalog statistics.
      • Create the PLAN_TABLE.
      • Determine which indexes are associated with a table.
    2. Statement Usage
      • Run an EXPLAIN on a program.
      • Run an EXPLAIN on two statements provided by the instructor.
    3. Output Tables
      • Review the PLAN_TABLE to determine joins method used for the step, prefetch techniques and method used to access the table.
      • Review the STATEMENT_TABLE and determine type of query being explained, and estimated total cost in timerons.
    4. Performance Factors
      • Locate and review the principle statistics effect performance of a query.
      • Determine the access path for a query and modify the query to change the access path.
    5. Interpreting Data Access
      • Using the PLAN_TABLE, determine the performance issue with a query and repair the problem.
      • Determine how many sorts are being performed on a query and why.
      • Determine the type of join being performed; modify the query to use a different join type.
