CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
    1. Featureset
      • Identify design techniques applicable to CICS.
      • CICS components - overview
      • Recognize the different function of each component within CICS.
    2. Facilities and Functions
      • Control flow within CICS.
    3. Tuning a CICS System
      • Identify aspects of the design that affects system performance.
    4. Task Design
      • Construct a design for passing data within a transaction.
      • Determine the best techniques for passing large amounts of data between routines within a single transaction: channels, temporary storage queues, commarea, and others.
    5. Screen Design
      • Perform a design for web enablement.
      • Given a business application that uses a standard BMS screen, redesign it for a web application connected to CICS.
      • Create web design documents.
      • Given a poorly designed set of maps, redesign it to improve readability, usage, and accessibility.
    6. File Design
      • Data can be queued and stored for internal or external processing.
      • Selected data, specified in the application program, can be routed to or from predefined symbolic intrapartition or extrapartition destinations.
      • Code a program to pass data between two programs using a transient data queue.
      • Print a report using a transient data queue.
    7. Other Design Areas
      • Implicit locking on non recoverable and recoverable files.
      • Demonstrate exclusive control during updates of non recoverable resources.
      • Design a web service that will run under CICS.
      • Design and document a SOA web service for CICS. The instructor will provide a business problem.
      • Document the components in creating a basic web service using CICS as the server.
    8. Recovery and Restart
      • Design recovery file resources to be prepared for an immediate shutdown.
    9. CICS System Recommendations
      • Reducing paging.
      • File design issues
      • Programming consideration.
