DATES:

CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
    1. Database: Introduction
      • Describe the 2-tier and 3-tier method of working with JDBC.
    2. SQL
      • Code and test a number of SQL statements including joins, unions, and subqueries.
    3. Querying and Modifying Data
      • Code a number of queries with significant filtering and multiple tables.
    4. JDBC: Java Database Connectivity
      • Examine the assumptions and featureset underlying JDBC.
      • Setup a database and establish a connection.
      • Become knowledgeable with multi-tier models and develop designs for different multi-tiered applications.
    5. Using JDBC
      • Setup and install a new JDBC driver on the client systems.
      • Create a remote JDBC driver on a server.
      • Code two different techniques for establishing a connection to the test server.
      • Use a PreparedStatement object for sending SQL statements to the database; this special type of statement is derived from the Statement class.
    6. JDBC: Advanced Techniques
      • Acquire proficiency in handling exceptions.
      • Handle errors which include: 1- A bad connection. 2- Invalid SQL statements. 3- Truncated values. 4. Returning no values.
      • Compare dates and perform date arithmetic.
      • Perform table joins; code an outer and a full inner join.
      • A stored procedure is a group of SQL statements that form a logical unit and perform a specific task; they are used to encapsulate a set of operations or queries which execute on a database server: 1- Invoke a stored procedure that returns a resultset. 2- Process the resultset.
    7. Special Features
      • Return the count of the number of rows affected by the operation.
      • Create parameterized statements, fill in the values, and invoke a parameterized SQL statement.
      • Work with large objects; retrieve a LOB and display the results.
